2011 — Object’s Digital Year
Monday February 13 2012
2011 was a big year for Object. In addition to continuing a strong exhibition and touring program (as I write this there are six Object exhibitions open around the country) and developing and piloting our landmark primary education program Design Emergency, we have had some terrific achievements in the digital realm.
The first, of course, was back in February with the launch of Object magazine issue 60. After an eighteen month hiatus, the magazine returned in a digital form, published as a free iPad app. We were delighted when it appeared as a Staff Pick in Apple’s App Store, and even more delighted as the numbers of downloads soared past the printed figures — this shift to digital has seen many more people able to easily engage with contemporary design from Australia and around the world. Exciting also was the realisation that it is not just people in Australia who are reading the magazine — people from every corner of the globe are finding it and enjoying it. Last count was 65 countries and climbing.

Object Wins Three MAPDAs!
Wednesday November 16 2011
Last night, at a ceremony in Perth as part of the Museums Australia conference, the Museums Australia Multimedia and Publication Design Awards (MAPDA) were held. The awards were for print or multimedia design projects realised in the previous calendar year — from Jan 1 to Dec 31 2010.
Object was shortlisted in the Website and Multimedia categories for our two mini-sites created last year — one for the Audio Design Museum and another for the Spring Series, which was a program of events that ran late 2010. Both of these sites were designed and created by our incredible corporate partners Canvas Group, who are also responsible for this fabulous website you find yourself reading and the wonderful digital Object magazines you can download or read online.
Sadly, no one from Object could get to Perth for last night’s event, but a delegate from Museums and Galleries NSW Sarah-Jane Rennie agreed to collect any awards we might receive. And it was just as well she offered — Object received three awards across the two websites.
